Another dual image daylight/UV work which was created in the darkest period of winter for an exhibition in Sheffield. At the time when the sun is lowest in the sky it seemed most appropriate to celebrate the coming of the light and the Midwinter New Fire ceremonies held across the world in ancient times. The Roman God Janus is a personification of this time, when Midwinter days pass outside of time and new doorways open within. Hence, Janus Lux Mundi - Janus Light Of The World - expresses those moments in wintry darkness when the heart turns inwards, our eyes close in delight and we find the light within...

In the darkest time of Winter
The Sun hangs low and hides away

Days somehow outside time
The Sun steps upon the cold Earth

World infused with icy magic
The Sun opens a door to Life

Janus awakes and restarts Time
Climbs back into the Sky
And the people bring New Fire...
