Minoan Honey - Visual Art from Minoan Crete

The artwork in these galleries are among the first from a new series of ongoing works entitled Minoan Honey, a body of figurative and visionary or dreamlike works inspired by the vigour and vitality of Minoan art from Bronze Age Crete. This series seeks to explore a variety of themes, but a central focus is upon archaic images of the male and female in the context of the woman-centred culture that Minoan Crete evidently was, and to use these image to offer an ‘archaic challenge’ to the conceits and assumptions of the modern, largely male-centred, world.
