"XIBER"
2006 : 59cm x 42cm : Inks & markers on card

Another thematic landscape, but the landscape in question is the valley and river system around my current home town of Shipley rather than a sacred landscape. However, the designs for the houses and hills are taken directly from rock and plaster art found in and around the Neolithic town of Catal Hoyuk, central Turkey. Dating to as early as 7500BC, this town is now a major archaelogical site and the source of great insight into how early Neolithic farmers lived. I thought it would be interesting to transplant that ancient imagery into my modern day surroundings, where can be seen the confluence of two waterways and hills stretching away to wild moorlands.
