As an artist I am largely self-taught, having left formal artistic education at age 15, being rather unsatisfied with the restrictive and conceptual approaches to teaching that I experienced at the time. Since that age, I have educated myself on numerous art styles and movements from across the world, and have developed non-standard approaches and holistic methods of composition in my work. As a result I am now fully conversant in the artistic (and associated mythological) traditions of Mesoamerica, the Andes and the Amazon as well as numerous rock art and petroglyphic styles from Africa and Australia to Palaeolithic Europe and Israel. The primitivist human and zoomorphic form of the Old European and Minoan culture horizons and visionary and psychedelic movements of the twentieth century are also inspirations for my work.
I began formally creating what I consider to be my first original compositions at age 23 when living in Japan, and for much of the last ten years I have generally worked for small commissions, gifts or personal creations for my own continuing artistic development. In the past two years I have exhibited in a variety of locations and have been involved in larger commissions and projects.
