abando

:: abando :: is the music project of Bruce Rimell, an artist and musician living in the city of Leeds, UK. He thinks you can tell a lot about someone by the kind of music they make, and if that's true, then Bruce is a bit offbeat, very playful and at times daft, and his music definitely reflects his mischievous love-life attitude.

it's ambient and playful, it's sometimes pop or techno, it's mostly offbeat, it's abando...

His musical influencs come from far and wide, and include early 90's ambient techno of the Warp artificial intelligence kind, the genre-baffling sounds of australian electronic outfit Severed Heads, the sounds of Japanese music ancient and modern, as well as Polynesian music, ambient artists like Tetsu Inoue, Latin reggaeist Manu Chao, and the sound of Reload among others, as well as Native American music and vocoders.

it's definitely not grim up north... perhaps a little bit bouncy...

Whilst is abando's second album, eleven tracks recorded in spring 2007. It's a change of direction from previous releases, from sharp burst pieces ('Hey Little Avatar') and the dark and strange ('Power Up Principle') to more gentle ambient ('Kazet Bac' and 'Breathe Out Two') and two versions of an upbeat techno piece ('Better Always'). Whilst comes free with a drifting ambient CD Heaven:Track.

Metro Bilbao is abando's first full-length release, a 13 track album developed from the bones of several previous projects recorded over the first six months of 2006. It's an eclectic mix of bouncy playful tunes ('Mayan Tickle Traps', 'Urrengo Geltokia...'), drifting ambient pieces ('Timelapse'), hard-edged techno ('You Got It', 'Were-Jaguars United') and a daft song ('Drive My Car') at the end.

Tickle Traps and Three Minute Bursts are also available from this site, both of these being projects from which Metro Bilbao was ultimately derived, and which can be dowloaded for free. A new, shorter project - Zapoteco Del Istmo - is also available to buy from the shop, and the latest projects, Dark Bright Of The Soul and Little Rehab are now downloadable.
