In the northern sky here we can see the five major planets at the very top, holding aloft the symbols of their office: (from left to right) winged Mercury holding a scroll or a message; wild-haired Venus holding a heart and ruling over love; at the very highest point is Saturn holding a plumb-bob ready to measure the depths of the sky; kingly Jupiter wielding a spear to hurl acorss the sky; and Mars holding a sword of defence.
