"AHOAHEL"
1999 : 29cm x 21cm : Silver pen on cartridge paper
This is an old piece from a long time ago, which was mainly produced to experiment with typographic forms. I had found in my university notes an old fragment of a myth along with the original language in which it was told. The notes I had made at the time told almost nothing about the story, and whether the myth is now remembered by anyone living now I do not know. I don't even remember the name of the people among whom the myth was originally told. Thus, this whole situation struck me as symbolic of the general loss of mythical and tribal wisdoms and traditional forms which is hgappening in our world today. The English words in this piece read as follows: "They were travelling along / and / they were butchering it / antelope / killed, did kill, they killed / he came up / he saw / udder / he took / chief / no! / he wanted / he said / the other one / he gathered them together / they travelled off away / they cut themselves off / so / people don't know / they're living..." |
