-:- little quetzal -:-

The name that I chose for the musical side project is :: little quetzal :: For a while I have felt that these compositions should remain entirely separate from my more upbeat ambient techno project :: abando :: and have understood their intentions to be entirely different. So it makes sense to record under an entirely different name, even though at times the two projects have had a certain element of crossover - a couple of the tracks from :: salviasonics :: were reworked under the abando project to a more upbeat focus, and one track from an abando cd was reworked and placed on :: salviasongs :: with a more meditative focus.

The name :: little quetzal :: remembers the sacred Mexican bird of the cloud forest which covers much of Central America, including Mazatec country, and it also contains a note of humility - these compositions are, if you like, the songs of the little quetzal. By far the greater songs can be heard from the true bird itself, by which I mean both salvia divinorum herself and the Mazatec people who were the originators of this work. It also remembers the sense I have been getting over the past year that the Quetzal Bird is becoming something like a magical musical ally for me, and some of the music feels like her own spirit voice singing to me...

it clicks into the unfolding mind
and becomes a shapeshifting mirage...
