| Whenever I visit a distant place, such as Japan or Crete, and then return home, I am left with the feeling that really it is only a short journey away, a hop on the train. In early 2008, I realised there was a part of me that felt exactly the same way about salvia spaces and the inner landscapes she engenders. There's something very real about her visions, and though I know them to be internal, nonetheless they feel external. Hence the Night Train To La Maria. |
Conceived as a digital piece, we see a twisting mirrored train leaving a railway station and passing by a cityscape and rolling hills into a double vortex suggestive of the beginning moments of the salvia journey. The image is intended to suggest the sense of invitation that I often feel with salvia, as if I am being invited into the vortex, and out of consensus reality. |
