"FALLEN STAR"
2006 : Samsung Digimax A6
I have always known that there is beauty in sorrow, and this image depicts a little bit of sorrow. Just as I was leaving my house one morning, I found a bird's egg that had obviously fallen from it's nest. I picked it up, and from the weight of it I knew that there was an embryo inside - one who will never get to hatch out. There was something not-quite-this-worldly about it - was the bird inside it alive or not-yet-alive? Since it will never hatch, can it be said to have lived? I tried for ages to get a decent photograph without the bluish colour scattering visible on the right hand side of the egg but then I realised that the effect seemed to add to the egg's otherworldliness. Eventually I took the egg outside and laid it to rest in a quiet and sheltered corner of the garden. |
