"FRIDAY"
2004 :
42cm x 59.4cm : Marker on card
This image is part of a series called Hands Of Christ on the Crucifixion & Resurrection theme which was completed during Easter of 2004. This piece was, as the name suggests, completed on Good Friday. We see the Hands of Christ in front of the cross, with drips of the Holy Blood falling from the fingers. However, the stigmata have transformed into symbols of life and death: the left hand (as we see it) shows Jesus' body wrapped in a shroud and interred for burial and the right hand shows the embryonic separation of a cell, denoting new life. The text on the far right says HIC EST IESUS NAZAREUS REX IUDAEORUM INRI - 'This is Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews (INRI)' |
