"MARC STARES AT HIS EMPTY HAND"
2002 : 30cm diameter : Inks & markers on card
A pen and ink portrait of a guy I met in a nightclub in 2002. There was something invitingly beautiful yet dark about him; he was also muscularly fit yet somehow frail-looking. A man of visual contradictions, therefore, and a good subject for a portrait. What interests me most about this piece is the way the inks would not settle on the card. At first this irritated me as I tend to prefer solid block colour, but then I decided to turn it to my advantage and explored the scratchy effect which so far I have not been able to effetively recreate. Thus Marc... stands as a unique piece for me. |
