:: developmental pieces and initial works ::

The images shown here are works which either functioned as developmental pieces or were used as base images from which to redevelop or rework the imagery into a final piece. Staff Of Heaven uses the same petroglyph imagery as Song Of Heaven but translates the serpent as a staff and the ladder-star figure as a shaman or priest setting out a magic ritual. Ibex Jani (Latin for ibex of Janus) depicts a double-headed ibex glyph as a headpiece for Janus, the Roman God of Time and Beginnings. 75 Days Rising is a commissioned piece which sprang from a petroglyph relating to star alignments, and Crash Of Thunder explores ancient beliefs about ibexes and their magical ability to create rainstorms by clashing their antlers together in imitation of thunder. Finally Springsky Newyear (v1) is an early version of the later piece of the same name but whose blue background was felt to be too wintry for a desert context, hence it was reworked.
