"SONG OF HEAVEN"
2007 : 29cm x 42cm : Inks & markers on card

A reinterpretation of a petroglyph depicting the northern sky. I have shown a star as the source of the Milky Way and the serpentine form is remodelled into another 'branch' of the Milky Way. At top left we see the pole star, and the dog at right represents the constallation Ursa Minor which anciently was thought of in canine form. I have tried to give this piece some suggestion of a star map, but one which is forever turning: the yellow hands of the sky-miller can be seen moving the sky. Many ancient peoples considered the far northern sky to be representative of heaven and I have tried to suggest that idea here.
