To illustrate something of the difference between the other varietes of Mazatec, here is presented the numbers from one to ten in Huautla, Mazatlan and Ixcatlan dialects. You might notice that in many cases the difference between the languages depends on tone and perhaps a single vowel change, but given that tone is improtant in denoting meaning in Mazatec words, perhaps it is fair to say that these numebr systems might not be mutually intelligible after all.
