This piece was produced for an open competition at Saltaire Festival 2007 in which the theme was Saltaire itself. It struck me that a kind of visual history of the Saltaire can be gained simply by walking from north to south through the village. Beginning in the park to the north (representing the green pasture before Saltaire was built), one can cross the river and canal (the first man-made construction in the area) before reaching the mill and the village itself (built after the canal) then continuing further south towards the modern cafes and educational insititutions which represent the modern era.
