"DOWN INTO XIBALBA"
2007 :
50cm x 35cm : Digital print on cotton satin
Another Mayan myth from the Popol Vuh, this time telling of Hunahpu and Xbalanque's voyage to the underworld (Xibalba) to avenge their dead father. The Lords of Xibalba made them spend a night in five houses: a house of smoke, a house of blades, a house of cold, a house of jaguars and a house of bats. In the last house, Xbalanque had his head lopped off by a bat but returned to life later in the tale. Here we see the five houses and their track through Xibalba. |
